Inspiration

To educate the population, especially the younger demographic, about what goes into making a city run efficiently as well as raising awareness about conservation.

What it does

The website is straightforward and gives a quiz for the user take that is meant to convey how much it takes run the city, with it all taking place "behind the scenes". When each of the icons, placed over a map of Schenectady, are hovered over, they provide fun facts related to conservation and waste management.

How we built it

We built this using pure Python and Javascript.

Challenges we ran into

We originally had deeper ambitions, but ran into many problems when trying to access the city data through API and the predix product.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

One of our members, an Architecture student, had never coded before. So this was a learning experience for him as he learned how to write code, helped build the website, and collaborated on the design and content.

What we learned

We learned, from the ground up, about python and pythonic syntax. This included learning about the idea of object-oriented programming, class creation, list comprehensions, and string formatting. On the other side of this learning experience came learning about teaching and effective communication of technical topics to non-technical learners.

What's next for TheAluminumBoys

Literally anything else.
