Inspiration

I noticed that the YMCA lacked a unified system to track volunteer engagement and community impact. My main goal in this limited time was to create a platform that makes it easier for members to show contributions meaningfully and for the organization to measure impact

What it does

The YMCA Revamp platform allows users to log volunteer hours, track progress toward badges and perks, and visualize the impact they’re making in the community.

How we built it

I built the backend using Python and SQLite to manage volunteer data. The frontend uses Streamlit for quick deployment and interactive dashboards. We integrated CSV imports to populate my database quickly.

Challenges we ran into

Handling CSV data from multiple sources was tricky due to inconsistent formatting. I also had to optimize the dashboard to display real-time metrics without slowing down performance, which meant I constantly had to go back and forth in the same section of code to ensure the UI worked seamlessly with the backend data

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I successfully created a working prototype in 6 hours that allows users to log hours, track badges, and visualize impact—all in one platform

What we learned

I learned how to integrate Python with Streamlit for rapid prototyping and gained experience in data handling and visualization. I also learned how to manage full-stack development, coordinating the frontend, backend, and database. Additionally, I improved my problem-solving skills and learned how to work efficiently under tight deadlines.

What's next for The YMCA Revamp

Next, I plan to add authentication so users can securely log in, expand reporting features for admins, and implement mobile-friendly dashboards. I also want to explore AI-driven suggestions to help volunteers find opportunities that match their skills
