"The Witch's Domain" is a digital environment concept painted in Photoshop and assembled in Unity using the Corgi Engine. Born from my visual design class is the story of a witch whose powers infused within an abandoned mansion. Such rumors spread to a curious novelist itching for new story ideas, and so begins the player's journey. While the game takes on the format of a 2D platformer, I drew inspiration from old Japanese RPG Maker puzzle games such as "Mad Father" and "The Witch's House" as I wanted a puzzle, story-focused game to be the final product. The vivid cool colors of the environment give off an isolated atmosphere with a touch of eeriness. The swirling, arching designs of the walls and bookshelves are loosely inspired by Gothic and Art Nouveau styles to reflect the mansion's old age. The sharpness of Gothic architecture adds a hint of danger and Art Nouveau, a sense of dream-like whimsy representative of the witch's domain.
