Inspiration - The inspiration for The Weight of Home came from my reflections on both war-torn stories of the past and the silent struggles of today’s youth. I wanted to bridge these two worlds — showing how fragmented memories of a soldier could mirror the invisible battles of young people dealing with anxiety, isolation, and the weight of expectations. Storytelling and philanthropy became my guiding lights, reminding me that healing often begins when we share our stories.
What it does -
How we built it - Scriptwriting: Brainstormed with ChatGPT for themes and prompts, then crafted my own script.
Visuals: Generated cinematic imagery with ImagineArt and Hailuo Minimax for flashbacks.
Editing: Used Filmora with AI plugins for sound correction, layering, and transitions.
Final assembly: Built around a rhythm of heartbeat cuts and memory fragments, blending AI tools with personal storytelling.
Challenges we ran into - Keeping the emotional tone consistent while using AI visuals.
Balancing the poetic storytelling with technical AI experimentation.
Handling all creative and technical roles alone, from concept to editing.
Accomplishments that we're proud of - Merging AI innovation with deeply human themes.
Bringing awareness to youth mental well-being through a cinematic, poetic lens.
Creating a short film that feels intimate and universal, despite limited resources.
What we learned - I learned that storytelling can be a bridge between personal struggle and collective healing. While building this film, I realized that the weight people carry — whether a soldier in war or a young person facing mental pressure — often remains unseen, yet it shapes their lives profoundly. By blending AI tools with human creativity, I learned how memory, visuals, and sound can be woven together to not only express emotion but also spark empathy.
The process taught me patience and the importance of balance: technology can enhance imagery, but the real heart of the film lies in the human truth it conveys. Most importantly, I learned that cinema, even when made with limited resources, has the power to start meaningful conversations about mental well-being and resilience.
What's next for The Weight Of Home I plan to expand this into a series of short AI films focusing on youth mental health, resilience, and community support. I’d also like to collaborate with mental health organizations to use the film as a conversation tool for awareness campaigns.
