Inspiration

As someone currently navigating a GLP-1 journey for medical reasons, I've personally experienced the unmet needs of existing applications. While most apps track weight, there are other crucial aspects like managing side effects and celebrating non-scale victories that are often overlooked. My core inspiration for "The Weekly Dose" was to create the definitive, go-to app for GLP-1 users throughout their entire journey, filling these significant gaps.

What it does

"The Weekly Dose" is a comprehensive iOS application designed specifically to empower individuals on their GLP-1 medication journey. We provide an intuitive, all-in-one platform that simplifies tracking, offers intelligent guidance, and celebrates every step of progress, ensuring users feel supported and informed. Our app is built to address the unique needs of people taking medications like Mounjaro, Ozempic, and Wegovy.

  • 🏠 Intuitive Dashboard: Get a beautiful, at-a-glance overview of your progress with a circular goal indicator and quick action cards for common tasks. Never miss a dose again with clear next injection reminders.
  • 📊 Comprehensive Progress Tracking: Effortlessly log and visualize your weight and body measurements with engaging charts and progress insights. Track your journey day by day and see your pounds lost, percentage of body weight lost, and pounds remaining to reach your goal.
  • 💉 Smart Injection Management: Go beyond simple logging with our innovative injection tracker. It provides essential site rotation recommendations to prevent tissue damage and ensure optimal absorption, along with detailed dosage and medication tracking.
  • 🏆 Uplifting Non-Scale Victories: Empowers users to celebrate achievements that extend beyond weight on the scale. Users can log and categorize personal victories like "Jeans fit perfectly!" or "Walked 10,000 steps without fatigue," with photo support to capture their holistic progress.
  • ⚠️ Advanced Side Effects Monitoring: Proactively track and manage medication side effects with customizable severity levels and resolution tracking. Crucially, the app helps generate discussion points for healthcare providers, enabling more informed and productive conversations about their health.

How we built it

"The Weekly Dose" was built with a focus on rapid iteration and a robust, scalable foundation.

We leveraged Bolt.new for the entire user interface development. Bolt.new's capabilities allowed us to quickly build and refine the UI, starting with mock data and refining it until we were happy with it. This platform was instrumental in bringing the polished, professional interface to life.

Supabase forms the backbone of our data architecture, containing all the tables that store customer data. We've integrated Supabase into the application and added test customer data, as well as some of my own journey data, to demonstrate its functionality.

Additionally, we utilized Expo to view the UI directly on an iPhone, allowing us to see how the application looks and feels on a mobile device in real-time.

Challenges we ran into

Developing with cutting-edge tools during a hackathon often presents unique challenges. One significant hurdle we encountered was that sometimes Bolt.new would change something that was already working. This required us to revert changes and be more specific about subsequent modifications to ensure stability.

Another challenge involved troubleshooting specific issues when the AI agent attempted to fix an error but couldn't resolve it. This meant a deeper dive into the underlying code was necessary to manually identify and correct problems, highlighting the balance between AI assistance and developer expertise.

The biggest challenge was getting the application to Apple Developer Connect. It was extremely difficult troubleshooting app crashes using Test Flight.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are particularly proud of the intelligent injection tracking feature. My favorite aspect is the injection tracking because there have been several instances where I personally forgot the location of my previous injection. Having the application provide a recommendation for the next injection site is an incredibly valuable and awesome solution to a common real-world problem.

My "wow" moment during development was when the initial concept of the UI came together. Seeing the design come to life and how intuitively it addressed the user journey was incredibly satisfying
