I'm a foreign student in Tbilisi and i feel lonely sometimes,sp every Saturday or whenever i can find time i go to a gallery called project artbeat. it gave me peace and sometimes inspired some of my paintings. When the lock-down started i realized i wouldn't be able to go there anymore, sadly. so i came with the idea of a virtual gallery and decided to work on it.
This filter simply projects a 3d gallery into the environment so people can walk in and view the pieces like they would at a normal gallery.
i used resources from the spark Ar app and library, then i went on Instagram and pitched the idea to every artist i could find, i put the works of those that replied me into the gallery.
Instagram has a 4mb filter limit, which means every piece of the filter had to be important. i had to drastically reduce the pixel density of each artwork without loosing quality. although i wish i could make the gallery more realistic, the space limit will not allow the use of realistic texture.
Nothing really, i think it's a simple idea that other people must have had. Although the artists seem to very excited about it, every time i look at it i always see something i can make better.
I learned how to prioritize detail without sacrificing user experience.
What's next for The virtual gallery.... when i post it, i want to pitch the idea to as many galleries as possible, it'd be amazing to see how beautiful it'd be if the Louvre could have one of this or if instagram itself had a monthly or weekly art exhibition itself, lol imagine how rad that would be it'll probably bring more artists and creatives to the platform. I also plan to keep reaching out to artists so i can update the gallery constantly and help them reach more people. who knows maybe someday, these artists might be able to sell their art through a virtual exhibition someday.
