Inspiration
Wrote the song in February, then waited until I had the right ideas to keep the visuals respectful, not spectacle or make minorities into symbols . The Theme is awareness before opinion, empathy with understanding, and honest reflection on privilege. I needed to respect that but still sort of lean into the old school hip hop vibes. I had help in my community that helped pressure-test tone and imagery multiple times, especially from people closer to these realities which was important otherwise I would have not released it out of fear to upset anyone.
What it does
This is a reflective hip hop short that looks past headlines and movie imagery we get subjected to. I wanted to make people see the grind people actually live in or at least build some awareness. Especially from where I live in central Europe it's sometimes hard to grasp the reality that in the western world we can still have these realities. The song centers around humility, me the narrator admits my limits while trying to see things more clearly. I use visual contrasts to support message and vibe, I use mostly black and white with a turquoise accent on the main (my) perspective that feels warped since I experience everything through a filter of media and Hollywood. the reality uses found footage style b-roll to contrast this.
How we built it
Lyrics wrote myself Music and composition through Suno.AI Video Material 100% Sora1 Heavy text-to-video for B-roll, guided with consistent “found footage” style prompts Character moments from one image-to-video seed, Sora gens used vide storyboard feature as the jumping-off points and guided from there. Edits with Davici Resolve. Fun Fact...I had to almost not color correct anything. All Black and White as well as Turquoise spectacles where prompted and not edited in post.
Challenges we ran into
Striking the line between respect and dramatization, avoiding imagery that centers to much on one minority. Text-to-video variability, keeping B-roll coherent while using many generated clips. Pacing a heavy topic so lines can breathe, cut to phrasing and rests rather than constant motion.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
A cohesive, respectful short that keeps focus on lived reality instead of spectacle. Visual system that supports the thesis, monochrome world with a single accent used with intent. A workable recipe for mixing text-to-video B-roll and image-to-video character shots without breaking tone.
What we learned
Intention and constraint guide the tools, a tight palette and prompt language create coherence. “Found footage” style prompts help realism in some cases but you end up with some rather stark uncanny valley on Sora1. It's very relaxing when you don't have to worry about lip-synch at all :)
What's next for The View From Below
I kinda messed up, my original premiere video had a typo io overlooked and started of with great numbers on the YT premiere but i had to unlist it and reupload the fixed version which sadly now also got buried by the YT algo. So not sure where to go from here to be honest. As with all my video releases my Song is now on streaming , so I hope people will find the video eventually. Or maybe something happends that gives the video a second live.
