Story

Jonah, a shy and introverted boy, receives a mysterious lamp from his grandfather—an artefact that grants the ability to enter books. When Jonah tests the lamp, he is pulled into an unfinished story and becomes trapped inside. To return home, he must engage with a world shaped by imagination, danger, and emotional trials. Only by completing the story can he uncover his own strength and find the courage he never believed he had.

Inspiration

This project grew out of my fascination with the power of stories, which teach us to grow beyond ourselves. I wanted to create a visually poetic fantasy adventure that brings to life both the magic of books and the universal themes of family, loss, and personal growth. The Story draws inspiration from classic tales that blur the line between reality and fantasy—such as Alice in Wonderland, The Chronicles of Narnia and The Neverending Story. At its core lies a fascination with how stories challenge us, heal us, and help us grow. The idea of physically entering a book became a metaphor for personal transformation: stepping into the unknown to discover who you are.

Production Process

The development began with defining Jonah’s emotional arc and designing a world that reacts to his choices. Visual concepts were shaped around surreal yet grounded environments, influenced by dream logic and classic fairy-tale motifs. From there, I created a structured three-act narrative, refined the lamp’s mechanics, and established consistent rules for entering and exiting story worlds. The trailer was approached cinematically, focusing on atmosphere, mystery, and emotional stakes.

Challenges I Ran Into

One major challenge was balancing the fantastical scale of the book world with the intimate, character-driven themes. Creating a clear magic system without overexplaining it required meticulous refinement. Another difficulty was ensuring Jonah’s inner journey—courage, self-trust, and growth—remained visible in a short trailer format. Finally, blending emotional storytelling with visually striking fantasy elements demanded careful pacing and stylistic consistency.
