Inspiration

We were inspired by the movie Dune, for their incredible character design and overall plot. We really enjoy story games and how we feel as though we are in the actual fictional world, and thats what we tried to accomplish with our project

What it does

This story game is meant to entertain people who love a good sci-fi story, and this project also proves that even beginner coders can create well-organized and thought out projects.

How we built it

We built this game on Replit using Javascript and the P5Play Library. All of the images and art were hand drawn by us digitally on Kleki and Ibis Paint, making our project super unique and original to us.

Challenges we ran into

Unfortunately, Replit would not load while we were at the academies, so we had to wait until we got home to build all the code. However, we were still able to produce all the art for this game during that time. And as we were finishing up the project, Replit decided to not let us finish our project because we didn't have the premium plan, and we weren't able to find another website that would let us upload all our artwork. So we had to pay for their premium plan.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are really proud of the fact that we pushed through even though there were so many issues with the internet connection, coding, and literally everything. We are also extremely proud of all the art we created, because as artists, we took this as an opportunity to show off our skills while learning new ones. We stayed up all night perfecting the code and art, and we put so much effort into this project.

What we learned

We learned a lot about Javascript and how to build up to more complex codes. We also learned that staying calm when something happens allows you to find solutions faster

What's next for The Unoriginal Souls

We plan on continuing our plot and adding more scenes to give our project more depth. This project also made us realize the story writing and character design is something we are strong in, which made us look into more coding competitions and we hope to continue applying to ACL Hacks for the next couple years.
