Our inspiration for this project is our love of inter-planetary research. Ever since we were elementary schoolers, we used to be excited to be going over classes about the solar system, and nothing fascinated us more than the prospect of aliens. Based off of this passion, we constructed a website for other kids (and adults) with a passion to space that is similar to ours which educates them with information about the planets. Furthermore, this platform also provides simple entertainment to the user using features such as trivia about the planets, little quizzes and a planet defending game (similar to pong) where you defend your planet from alien attacks. We built this app using Replit's website development program, using HTML to program the majority of the website, CSS to style and change the designing, and JavaScript to program the various methods for the different parts of the game and website. While we were originally trying to use Visual Studio Code to write the program, we couldn't get it due to not being able to work on it at the same time and lacking an understanding of GitHub Repositories. Another major challenge we ran into was a lack of people in our team, due to sickness in the group. This led to a a large project meant for 4 people being done by 2 people in a very stressful time range. Lastly, due to Replit's lackluster performance power compared to other websites, we dealt with lots of lagging issues which slowed the performance of our app. However, during this project, we learnt a lot about CSS styling and furthered our Javascript and HTML understanding, by creating our first game ever in the form of the pong/alien game. We also learnt a lot more about just programming in general, with the new knowledge of BootStrap and its functionality. Overall, our future goals for The Solar System! is to massively overhaul the project and expand it into the universe, showing multiple stars in multiple different galaxies, and more advanced concepts such as types of alien civilization, basic quantum mechanics, and the different types of stars and black holes and various other entities throughout our universe.
