Inspiration

Yemoja was inspired by the ancient belief that kingdoms are not only built by people but also protected by unseen forces. The story draws from West African mythology, especially the idea that gods, spirits, and ancestors are deeply tied to the fate of a land. The film explores a haunting question: “What happens when a paradise is confronted by a forgotten evil that once nearly destroyed the heavens?” The inspiration comes from three major themes:

  1. The Fall of Something Perfect The peaceful kingdom of Yemoja represents everything humans desire—joy, beauty, abundance. But perfection always attracts jealousy. The story is inspired by the idea that even the brightest places cast the darkest shadows.

  2. The Return of a Defeated Enemy Ikuesu, the god of death, symbolizes a force that was never truly destroyed just buried. His return mirrors old myths where defeated gods reawaken to reclaim what was taken from them. This brings tension, fear, and uncertainty that drive the story forward.

  3. The Thin Line Between Life and Death The moment the king dies and the dead no longer stay in their graves, the world loses its balance. This was inspired by spiritual tales where spirits roam when justice, leadership, or prophecy is broken. Yemoja becomes a world trapped between two realms the living and the dead creating suspense and horror.

  4. The Prophecy the King Died Protecting The King of Three Eyes was inspired by legendary rulers blessed with supernatural vision. His death raises the central mystery of the film: What did he see that made Ikuesu return? This sense of hidden truth gives the story its emotional and narrative depth.

  5. A War That Never Ends

Many mythologies describe ancient battles between divine beings and dark forces. This film reimagines that idea an endless war where humans, gods, and demons collide, and no one knows who will survive. It creates a world where hope is fragile, and every scene carries tension.

What it does

In the heart of the ancient realm of Yemoja, life blossomed like an endless spring. Laughter echoed through golden courtyards, rivers shimmered with purity, and maidens of celestial beauty danced for warriors sculpted like gods. Abundance was not a blessing in Yemoja it was the kingdom’s nature.

And at the center of this paradise stood The King of Three Eyes, a ruler blessed with a sacred, hidden sight, the past, the present and what should never be seen. For centuries, peace held firm. Until a forgotten shadow stirred.

Far beneath the broken stones of the heavenly battlefield, Ikuesu, god of death, crawled back from the ashes of his fall. His power was shattered, his flesh torn by divine blades, but his hatred burned brighter than ever. And when his gaze lifted, it found only one target: Yemoja, the kingdom that had once defied him. Ikuesu entered not with armies but with silence. a whisper in the night, a sickness no healer could name. a poison designed for one man and one prophecy. One moonless night, the King of Three Eyes collapsed on his throne, his third eye bleeding a dark, ancient venom. Before dawn, the king was dead. Before sunrise, Yemoja began to rot. The First War Drum Sounded. The skies split open. Unfinished spirits crawled from graves. The dead refused to sleep and the living were dragged between two worlds. Demons born from Ikuesu’s corruption marched across the kingdom, spreading plague, fear, and shadows that moved on their own. Human warriors fought bravely, but every fallen soldier rose again this time wearing Ikuesu’s chains. The once-joyful streets of Yemoja now echoed with screams, not songs.

How we built it

To bring Yemoja to life, we combined creativity with cutting-edge AI filmmaking tools. Each platform played a unique role in shaping the film’s visuals, sound, and storytelling. Our workflow blended multiple technologies into one unified production pipeline:

  1. Gemini v0.3: Core Video Generation

We used Gemini v0.3 as our primary engine for creating cinematic visual sequences. Gemini allowed us to design mythical landscapes, supernatural battles, and atmospheric scenes that matched the tone of Yemoja’s dark fantasy world.

  1. Grok AI: Text-to-Video Experiments

We leveraged Grok AI to generate additional text-to-video clips, especially scenes requiring surreal motion, spirit-world transitions, and abstract supernatural effects. Grok’s generative style added texture and unpredictability to the visuals.

  1. Canva Pro : Visual Assembly & Motion Scenes

With Canva Pro, we crafted motion templates, transitional animations, and layered scenes. Canva’s text-to-video features helped us build clean narrative overlays, title cards, and teaser elements that amplified the suspense of the story.

  1. CapCut Pro: Editing & Final Composition

We used CapCut Pro as our main editing suite, stitching together all generated clips. CapCut allowed us to refine pacing, add cinematic color grading, apply sound effects, and build a seamless flow between AI-generated scenes.

  1. Soul Music: Emotional & Atmospheric Score

For the soundtrack, we used Soul Music to create an emotional background score. Its deep tones and haunting rhythms enhanced the spiritual tension, the rise of Ikuesu, and the dramatic fall of Yemoja.

Challenges we ran into

Creating Yemoja with multiple AI tools was powerful—but also came with several unexpected challenges that shaped our workflow and problem-solving.

  1. Inconsistent Visual Continuity

Because we used several text-to-video models (Gemini, Grok AI, Canva’s generator), each tool produced slightly different character appearances, lighting styles, and motion patterns. We had to manually adjust prompts, regenerate scenes multiple times, and use editing techniques to maintain continuity.

  1. Difficulty Producing Complex Movements

AI struggled with scenes requiring:

realistic battle motion

synchronized demon vs. god fights

smooth transitions between worlds

Some clips took several attempts before we achieved something close to the intended action.

  1. Prompt Sensitivity

A small change in wording often produced a completely different style—especially in Grok and Gemini. This made it challenging to keep the dark-fantasy mood consistent across the film.

  1. Rendering Time & Failed Generations

High-detail scenes sometimes failed to render or came out distorted. We spent a significant amount of time:

refining prompts

re-generating scenes

selecting the best clips out of many failed outputs

  1. Voice & Sound Synchronization

Combining Soul Music’s emotional score with AI-generated visuals required careful editing. Matching the rhythm of the music with the timing of scenes, transitions, and suspense beats was more complex than expected.

  1. Balancing AI Creativity With Human Vision

AI often introduced unexpected elements—sometimes brilliant, sometimes unusable. We had to learn when to allow AI to surprise us… and when to take control and re-shape the output.

  1. Story-to-Video Translation Some moments like the rise of Ikuesu, the awakening of the gods, and the spiritual war—were difficult for AI to interpret visually. We had to break scenes into smaller visual ideas and build them piece by piece.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We Built a Complete Fantasy Film Using Multiple AI Models

We successfully combined four different AI ecosystems—Gemini, Grok AI, Canva Pro, and CapCut Proto create a unified cinematic storyline. Blending these tools into one seamless workflow is an accomplishment we’re extremely proud of.

  1. We Created a Unique Mythological World We designed an original kingdom Yemoja with its own gods, history, supernatural laws, and emotional depth. Building a new fantasy universe from scratch is no small feat.

  2. We Achieved Cinematic Visuals Without a Traditional Film Crew All our footage was created through text-to-video technologies, yet it still carries a strong atmosphere, suspense, and visual identity. This demonstrates how AI can empower small teams to create big visions.

  3. We Maintained Story Consistency Across Several AI Outputs Even though each AI model had its own style, we managed to keep the characters, tone, and environment aligned. This required patience, creativity, and a lot of iteration and we’re proud of how cohesive the final result is.

  4. We Overcame Technical Limitations From failed generations to style mismatches, we solved problems that many AI filmmakers struggle with. Our persistence helped us turn unpredictable tools into reliable production engines.

  5. We Turned a Vision Into a Watchable Story What started as a concept became a finished suspense-filled short film with narrative clarity, thematic depth, and cinematic appeal. Seeing the world of Yemoja come alive is one of our biggest accomplishments.

  6. We Showcased What AI Filmmaking Can Achieve Our project proves that with imagination and persistence, small creators can produce fantasy films that once required teams, budgets, and equipment. We’re proud to contribute to the future of AI-powered storytelling.

What we learned

Creating Yemoja taught us much more than filmmaking—it showed us how to combine imagination with emerging technology in a powerful way.

  1. AI Filmmaking Requires Patience and Precision We learned that generating high-quality video with AI isn’t just typing a prompt. It requires: detailed descriptions multiple iterations experimenting with angles, lighting, motion refining failed outputs AI rewards creativity but only if you’re willing to keep trying.

  2. Consistency Across Tools Is a Skill Using Gemini, Grok AI, Canva Pro, and CapCut together taught us how to: maintain visual style keep character designs stable control color tones match cinematic moods We learned how to “direct” AI the same way a filmmaker directs actors.

  3. Storytelling Still Comes Before Technology

No matter how powerful the tools were, the heart of the project remained the story. We learned that strong narrative, mythology, and emotion are what make the visuals meaningful.

  1. Editing Is Where the Film Truly Comes Alive

CapCut Pro taught us how crucial editing is for:

pacing suspense transitions sound design final visual polish We discovered that raw AI footage only becomes a movie when editing gives it rhythm.

What's next for The Unborn

  1. Expanding the Universe

We plan to build a deeper, richer world around the spiritual aftermath of Yemoja’s collapse. The Unborn will explore:

the souls trapped between life and death the prophecy the King of Three Eyes left behind a new threat rising from the underworld the destiny of those who were never meant to walk the earth

  1. Introducing a New Central Mystery

In The Unborn, a powerful question drives the story: What spirit did Ikuesu awaken that even the gods fear? This next chapter reveals the existence of beings neither living nor dead entities created from the chaos the gods cannot control.

  1. More Advanced AI Filmmaking

We will push our workflow further by: generating more dynamic character movements producing longer sequences integrating better world continuity using improved AI models for realism and action evolving our soundtrack design to match the darker tone

  1. A Deeper Emotional Story

While Yemoja focused on the fall of a kingdom, The Unborn focuses on rebirth, but a rebirth twisted by war, death, and unfinished destinies.

We will explore: ancient curses forgotten bloodlines the cost of immortality spirits seeking bodies to inhabit

  1. A Sequel That Answers… and Creates More Questions

The story will reveal: why the dead never rested who carries the king’s final prophecy what Ikuesu truly wanted who (or what) The Unborn actually is
