Inspiration
In an age where technology and sedentary life are revolutionizing society, it is imperative that people continue to maintain their physical and mental health. We are Gen-Z, and while we know all the nooks and crannies of what it means to be technologically active, we also recognize the importance of of touching grass. Going outside once a day has been shown to statistically increase the release of all the happy hormones that motivate us to go through each and every single day. We want to share the exhilarating and never-ending joy that comes with just taking a step outside.
What it does
Our game creates an in-game avatar for each user. The user will have to exercise a certain amount per day in order to make the character become stronger/faster in-game. For example, if the user runs/jogs in real life frequently, then his/her in-game avatar will have increased speed. This increased speed also helps for the mini-games that the user can play.
How we built it
We built the game using Unity and C#. We split up the work into two parts, one for the minigame and one for the UI and combined the two together at the end for the final product.
Challenges we ran into
We were not able to complete a full implementation of our software. For example, our mini-game has some minor bugs and our main menu has not finished creating all the tabs. In addition, we did not get to make the log-in software yet.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're very proud of our idea that could be immensely useful and fun for people. In addition, we are proud of the implementation that we were able to achieve, as it is more than enough to display the capabilities of what our fully implemented product can do.
What we learned
We learned how to effectively use Unity and use C# scripts to supplement it.
What's next for Grasstouch
We will first make sure our implementation works completely. After this, we will implement other workout routines other than just running and other mini-games other than the one we implemented that will add more variety to our game. In addition, we will create a rank system that gives people more incentive to exercise more.
