Inspiration
Natural Disasters causes great damage to humanity, properties get destroyed and people are affected physically, mentally and financially. To minimize these losses and to serve humanity is the inspiration behind our project.
What it does
It tracks the various natural disasters through NASA API and marks them on the google maps. We send the notifications to our users who reside in a region where natural disaster is about to hit. It is useful because it saves a lot of time which is usually wasted in communicating with different levels of management. As we know whenever a natural disaster is tracked the information about it is communicated through different peeps. It takes a lot of time to reach people thereby increasing the losses. But when we provide user directly the information about the disaster, they have time to prepare for the disaster, minimizing various losses.
How we built it
Google API cloud platform NASA API Key Google map API key HTML CSS Python modules
- Flask
- Urllib
- Pandas
- Folium
- Jason
- GoogleMaps
- MYQR
- smtplib
Challenges we ran into
While sending the alert messages, server took too much time to set up. Also we were not able to communicate with command line processor properly. We solved this by updating various dependencies and finding alternative commands to smtplib server set up.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have worked on an issue which is of global level, which needs to be addressed. Despite facing some difficulties while developing the code for it, we consistently worked and overcame those difficulties and have made this project a success.
What we learned
We learned about various new and upcoming technologies. Also we had a great learning experience during the building of this project.
What's next for The Ultimate Tracker
We want to and definitely will try to increase the reach of 'The Ultimate Tracker' to maximum population, so that they can prepare themselves for any upcoming disaster.
