Inspiration

Our TUSH is a one-stop-shop for all things student-related. All three of us, as high school juniors, have had similar experiences in our academic careers in India. We have found it difficult to find quality, free resources for our exam boards. They do exist, but they are not collated onto any single platform. As former students of the ICSE and CBSE curricula (Shreyes and Mihir), we can recount having spent countless hours searching and researching for study tips and resources. This app allows students from various academic backgrounds to benefit from the study materials posted here.

What it does

As mentioned before, this app is the ultimate student helper (or TUSH). It is essentially a collection or a library of existing resources. Having them all in the same place saves a lot of time and effort on the student's part, allowing them to spend more time on useful work. Furthermore, we have pages for student endeavors, such as upcoming events and internship opportunities. listed a few upcoming events. Note: The information and study materials listed on the current app version is not exhaustive. Only a small number of items have been researched and displayed, due to time constraints.

How we built it

We built this app using the Flutter Framework – which uses the Dart language – with a little bit of Python implementation as well, for some back-end development.

Challenges we ran into

First of all, one of our teammates dropped out the day the hackathon was supposed to begin. We also had to drop an idea for a project for which we prepared for almost a week. We dropped it because there were many similar products, which we became aware of later. Also, all three of us are new to app development for hackathons. We were familiar with Python and some back-end development; however, with mobile app development and using the Flutter framework, all of us were fairly new to this concept. Learning to make splash screens and widgets, and building user-friendly & aesthetic interactive features were all amazing to learn and integrate into our app to take on a problem we are all too familiar with. All in all, even though we had a lot to learn along the way to create the app that we have submitted, we thoroughly enjoyed the app development process.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the fact that we adapted as we went along. We came up with the idea of our current project a couple of hours before the hackathon began. We also found a new teammate the day of the competition, so we are proud of our flexibility and team working skills, which allowed us to quickly adapt and work on our project, without much conflict.

What we learned

We learned about the importance of open-mindedness. A hackathon competitor team should never be rigid in their thoughts. Being open to change is very important since anything can happen during development. We also gained valuable experience, from which we learned a lot about app development. Finally, we learned about the importance of giving yourself a challenge. Presented with a challenge, our team did everything in our ability to find the solutions to our issues, and build an app with the maximum possible functionality.

What's next for The Ultimate Student Helper – TUSH India

Two of our teammates are a part of a small nonprofit organization called MPower For Youth, which is a youth empowerment initiative. One of the aims of the organization is to help provide underprivileged students free, useful study materials. Also, as active members of our community, one of us runs a service-oriented club at school (called 'Fun With Physics') for the local village school kids in the neighboring village Tarahunise. The club aims to inspire the children to see the beauty of practical science and understand physics concepts through interesting and engaging experiments. Since they follow the local education system, such an app would be of great help to their education.

This app, after further development, would be used in these regards.
