The Ultimate Closet

Inspiration

Every morning, millions of people stand in front of a full closet and feel nothing. This isn't a storage problem. It's a decision-fatigue and mental-health problem that happens to live in your bedroom.

I built The Ultimate Closet because no existing app was built for people who own enough clothes and still can't get dressed, especially ADHD-adjacent and neurodivergent people for whom the morning routine is already a gauntlet. Every competitor is racing toward AI features and social feeds. Nobody was solving the actual problem: you already have everything you need. You just can't see it.

What it does

The Ultimate Closet is a morning mental-health tool disguised as a wardrobe app.

  • Help Me Decide — weather-aware outfit engine with three options: Default, Fresh, and Wildcard
  • ADHD Morning Mode — one question, one outfit, one button. Zero friction.
  • Rotation Score — shows what percentage of your closet is actually in rotation
  • Rescue List — surfaces items unworn 90+ days, without shame
  • Closet Cleanout Ritual — user-triggered in three modes: Quick Scan, Deep Audit, Shelf by Shelf
  • Cost Per Wear — tracks the real value of every item over time
  • Vacation Packer — weather-aware day-by-day outfit planning with packing list export
  • Donation Tracker — support wardrobe-readiness causes directly from the app
  • First Wear Glow — a gentle celebration the first time a new item gets worn
  • Cleanout Card Share — a beautiful shareable card showing what left your closet

The Chair is a valid clothing location. I mean this.

How I built it

Started on Emergent, then migrated to Replit — with Claude Sonnet 4.6 powering the URL/metadata AI extraction engine. Paste a product link and the item details autofill instantly. Live weather via Open-Meteo (no API key required). Cloud photo storage for Pro users. RevenueCat paywall architecture built and structured so real SDK keys drop in without a rebuild.

Three tiers. No ads.

  • Free — catalog, basic outfit suggestions, wear tracking
  • Pro Monthly — $4.99/month — ADHD Morning Mode, Rotation Score, Rescue List, Closet Mood, Cleanout Ritual, Cost Per Wear, Vacation Packer, cloud sync
  • Pro Annual — $24.99/year

32/32 backend checks passed on first full test run.

Challenges I ran into

The hardest part wasn't the build. It was resisting the urge to make it just another closet app.

Every feature decision came back to one question: does this reduce the friction of getting dressed, or does it add to it?

The Chair kept coming up. The pile of clothes that lives on the chair in every bedroom in the world — the one every productivity app implicitly shames you for. I didn't shame it. I made it a location. That one decision changed the entire product philosophy.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

  • ADHD Morning Mode ships as a core feature, not an afterthought or a settings toggle
  • The emotional promise lives in the UI from the very first screen: "You will never stand at a full closet feeling empty."
  • Claude Sonnet 4.6 AI extraction means adding items from a URL takes seconds, not minutes
  • Full MVP — onboarding, catalog, outfit engine, paywall, cleanout ritual, vacation packer, donation tracker — built, tested, and verified in under one hour
  • Launched on the App Store and Google Play as a solo developer with a full-time job

What I learned

Product positioning matters more than the feature list.

"Closet app" loses. "Morning mental-health tool" wins.

The brief that went into the build led with the emotional promise, not the feature set — and the agent understood the assignment on the first message. The most complete brief wins, not the fastest prompt.

Also: the market is full of apps that solve "now that I'm getting dressed." Nobody was solving "How do I start."

What's next for The Ultimate Closet

  • OOTD shareable cards for social — styled flat lay, one tap to share
  • The Big Refresh — a community closet cleanout event powered by the Cleanout Ritual engine
  • Ghost Cart bridge — wishlist items in The Ultimate Closet talk to Ghost Cart so impulse purchases get a pause before they land
  • Android and iPhone SE layout fixes for the next store release
  • Continued iteration based on the six-week post-launch test
