Inspiration
Travel is about experiences, it’s about realising how tiny you are and how important the butterfly is in the butterfly effect. Travel only helps you evolve when you give up on the concept of time and give in to the pleasure of living in the moment. These moments range from smiling at a passing by local, helping your mind wrap around when you see another person go about their routine in a place you never considered could be home. If it really is the mundane things in life that make one place from another, then here’s something to help you indulge in experiences and travel with your head while you help save the world or work towards your paycheck!
This filter will help you pick a place! And once you have a city in mind it will help you find and see those little things that sets that place apart. Get ready to fill those travel diaries up!
I have tried to play around with different concepts of creating experiences, I hope to eventually have a different filter for each city to be able to create a proper virtual experience.
The interactions used by the Filter
- Native UI Picker
- Currently has 5 options
- First is a random city picker
- This is a quiz kind of a city generator, for every option picked it suggests a city
The rest 3 options are 3 cities that this example filter is based on. These cities have been picked to explore the different limitations of different terrains. The cities are Leh, Delhi and Varkala.
Random City Picker
- It uses the animation sequence with the randomise and non-loop mode to function
- It only has city options which are currently present in the native UI picker
- It starts when you start the video recording
- It uses a face tracker and forehead placement
This Or That type place picker
- Even this uses the animation sequence and the same three cities
- The interaction with the user is based on the leaning of the head
Leh
- The front camera has a peraak, that is a traditional headgear of the ladhakhi people
- The back camera has a chunk of a hill of Leh which uses device motion to give a 360 degree kind of feel when you move the device around
- The background music is a live recording of women singing a folk song in Leh
Delhi
- The front camera has a mughal turban, as Delhi’s monuments and architecture mostly are remains from that time
- The back camera has a virtual experience creator, it currently has only 2 categories, that is, music and food, but the idea is to choose from the practices that can be picked up remotely, like the food can be made at home, and I feel nothing makes up for an ambience more than music so with the right kind of music you can understand a lot about a place and its culture.
- The background music is a recent folk song
Varkala
- The front camera has a Kathakali mask with a rendition of the boat song playing in the background
- The back camera has a stretch of Varkala beach. It uses device motion to pan the chunk of the land. The back camera has the sound of the beach, with the ocean and wind.
The Assets used
- The 3D models
- The Leh mountain
- This object has been created in blender using the bender GIS add on
- It uses the google maps and satellite to construct the object
I added some more nodes and materials to better the effect
The Varkala Beach
- This also has been made using the the Blender GIS add-on
- I have made no changes to this object
The Textures -Textual content I have made the text based textures using Figma It uses a simple colour combination of blue and lime green colours
- The picture based textures The picture based content has been taken from various stock websites The icons for UI picker The first 2 icons are from the Spark AR exaample assets The rest 3 icons are the city sigils that were part of the Zostel assets
The Audio The audio assets have been taken from various audio stock websites Patches
The random picker
- This patch group has been used at three places, one for the random city picker and the other 2 times to for the eperience selection for the delhi filter.
- The This or that
- This patch has been for the quiz filter where it suggests a city based on the leaning of the head
Non- Virtual Applications
- This filter can be used for non-virtual applications too, like creating an itinerary
- The random picker/quiz can be used to chalk out a day when you are visiting a new place. Something like the Delhi filter.
What's next for The Traveller
I want to make all the processes more smoother, as in the interations should be more user oriented. And I would like add more gamified version of the options soon to the filter
Built With
- blender
- javascript
- sparkar
