Inspiration
"Hey, tides, calculator, let's go." - Stuart
What it does
This program can take input of any day and time that is an know high or low tide and tell you about the tide cycles on any given day. It can also tell you if a spring or neap tide is in effect.
How we built it
Reasearching tides, one 61cm x 91cm (2ft x 3ft) piece of paper to plan, a day of python and much frustration.
Challenges we ran into
File i/o, python (the little snake), chipmunk in the garage disturbing coding time, python.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Removed chipmunk from garage (with leaf blower), fed with peanuts afterwards, it works(?)
What we learned
How tidal and orbital mechanics, datetime and epoch work and refreshed file i/o, do not leave garage door open
What's next for The Tide Calculator
Expand functionality to allow for dates before reference date, water depth calculations, possibly wind speed and direction for surfing, and adding to the list of recognized locations on file. Maybe a front end
