Inspiration

Our inspiration for this project came from a light familiarity with Google Cloud. That would be it. We really did not know where to go from there, however we built on each other's ideas, and eventually came out with... The Third Eye.

What it does

Upon the press of a button, 'The Third Eye' will speak and let you know exactly what is in front of you!

How we built it

With tender love and care, and many, many, many, obstacles, we created a python script to utilize the Raspberry Pi with its camera attachment, take a photo, assign it a unique id, send it to the Google Cloud Vision API for assessment, and convert the result returned with the highest certainty into speech using the Pyttsx3 module.

Challenges we ran into

The challenges were everywhere, from issues with hardware, to lack of machine availability, and most significant, the time our entire Raspberry Pi fried its wifi chip at 6AM. Those challenges, are now behind, far, far behind us, and we are happy to present our project in the up and coming sleek sustainable container.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Absolutely everything. When these four CS students signed for for their first hackathon, they did not know what they were in for...

What we learned

On top of solidifying our knowledge of the Google Cloud APIs, we learned a great deal about hardware, their components, compatibility, and everything in-between. We are excited to come back next with

What's next for The Third Eye

Given the time, we would have liked to incorporate a more compact and modular solution, however we are more than proud with our accomplishments.
