Inspiration

Start your player’s adventure with a magical onboarding guide- just like we did in our award-winning game Wizard School. The first few seconds in your game are crucial, and a confused player is a player who might not stick around. That’s why a smooth, engaging onboarding mechanic is pure gold.

What it does

When a player arrives in your game (or stumbles into a brand-new location), this onboarding station springs to life. Step onto the glowing white X, and suddenly—the painting talks! The mouth animation syncs perfectly with your announcements, so it feels alive and immersive. For the player, it’s simple and fun. For creators, it’s a technical headache. But we’ve done the hard work so you don’t have to - this template makes it easy.

How we built it

Many TypeScript hours and testing went into creating this asset.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge? Building an asset that’s powerful enough to be genuinely useful, yet so easy that even creators with zero TypeScript experience can drop it in effortlessly. Honestly, it sometimes felt like we were juggling two projects at once: one to make the asset look amazing, and another to make it actually easy to use. We’re pretty proud of how we managed to pull off both—and have fun doing it!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are especially proud of how easy this asset is to implement even for beginner creators who have no TypeScript experience. It’s ridiculously easy to use - and you don’t even need to know TypeScript. Just drop the asset into your world, skim the handy README, and you’re good to go. Zero coding required. Want to change things up? Swap the painting for any illustration—or even a photo of your choice. The animated mouth is simply a black circle, which makes it hilariously adaptable and works on almost any character design. To customize, click on the green trigger and open the Properties window. That’s where the magic happens: Drop in your recorded voice lines
Set the length of your announcement Watch as the mouth syncs up perfectly - starting and stopping right on cue.

What we learned

Publishing an asset for the Public Asset Library was a first for us. We are very impressed with that feature and hope to use it more in the future.

What's next for The Talking Painting (ONBOARDING GUIDE)

We’re looking forward to seeing how this asset will be received by the community. If we see a demand for updates, we’ll certainly provide them. There is a lot more that can be done with this asset: add animation, toggle painting styles, toggle pitch of delivery, etc.
