The Steminies

The Steminies is an AI solution destinated to change the preconceived idea that STEM is for male and attract more girls in this industries from a young age. it's a new approach to kids education.

Inspiration

The inspiration for this came from some TV series that I liked when I was a child, Jimmy Neutron and Phineas and Ferb for example. Child learn from anything, even from those TV series. We know that a child learns from everything. Thinking back to my childhood I realized that most TV shows were about male geniuses and for girls it was much more the barbie and princess stuffs. Even on the web it's like this. And growing up, a child who watch these kind of things will end up believing that the field of STEM is for the boy and not for the girl. Growing girls don't really have assigned role models identified. And with the rise of artificial intelligence, we thought why not implement an artificial intelligence that educates children, especially girls to interest them in STEM industries.

What it does

The Steminies is an artificial intelligence with different cartoon like characters and each character (we call them Stemini) will have the look of a genius child evolving in the STEM industries. Let say that a girl choose a female Stemini called Sarah who is an Astronaut. This girl will be able to have conversation with this Stemini and learn about astronomy and develop interest while having fun. She will be able to identify herself through the character. With this we will have more girl in STEM industries and reduce gender disparities.

Challenges we ran into

Since we didn't know anything about AI and machine learning, it was difficult to build something. But we develop interest to the subject and hope that we will be able to come up with something with this idea.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have found this idea. The search for solution to reduce gender disparities in STEM industries is not new. There is multiple solutions but I never ran into a solution like this one.

What we learned

We learned about Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. They have grown tremendously in recent years and they are future.

What's next for The Steminies

Maybe the Steminies can be used for more then child education in the STEM subject. Artificial Intelligence are growing fast and we are sure that The Steminies will benefit and grow too.
