Inspiration
We were inspired by how accessible space information was to the public and we wanted to make it all available by giving users their daily fix of space news and cosmic pictures.
What it does
The Daily Space will give users a title, author, description, and link to an article about a space article. To bring a better experience to the user along with new space images that will be presented within the website.
How we built it
We utilized two APIs, HTML, CSS, and Java. We also used XLMHttpRequest to get information from the API.
Challenges we ran into
One of the issues we ran into was implementing the APIs. We used separate IDEs to test the API before adding it to the main file, and that caused some issues when integrating.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were thrilled that we were able to finish the project within the allotted time. This was the first hackathon for most members in this group and we diligently worked together to submit the project by the deadline.
What we learned
We learned how to use and implement APIs. We also learned more about the syntax of JavaScript and how we can use the language to both use APIs and to change specific elements within an HTML file.
What's next for The Space Daily
We would like to implement more APIs into the website to further improve the user experience. Something else that we would like to add is more user input. We believe that this will make the website more interactive.
