The Ski Trip: An Interactive Game

Inspiration

Our team is comprised of completely novice coders so really we just wanted to make something. That was our goal from the very beginning just to create a code that could do...something. After many brainstorming sessions, we decided to create a game, similar to those we played in our childhoods.

What it does

It is a super fun interactive game to play, just a fun way to pass some time!

How I built it

The Ski Trip is a game built using python. Based off on choose your own adventure books, we first came up with a storyline. After outlining all possible paths that could be taken by making different choices during the adventure we proceeded to start coding.

Challenges I ran into

Our first challenge was just understanding what a Hackathon is and what we were even supposed to do _ if we did it wrong, we are really sorry. We tried! _. The other large obstacle was figuring out what we knew and what we didn't know when it came to actually writing out our program. Finally, we decided on a simple game idea that we had the tools to accomplish the overall program workflow but still challenged ourselves with new functions and different features of Python in the smaller details of how it ran.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Being novice coders we were quite unsure about how to approach this project and weren't too confident in our abilities. After brainstorming and working out different simple ideas we had we finally came to a project we believed was both within our capabilities, and interesting, and fun. With that being said, although the backend of this game is simple we're very proud of how it turned out and how we managed to work together virtually.

What I learned

This project really gave us the opportunity to bring to life our vision for this game that we came up with. This being our very first coding project, it was an incredible experience trying to visualize how everything would connect. Through this game we learned so much about problem solving, teamwork, but most of all, how to stay on track with what we wanted the code to accomplish.

What's next for The Ski Trip: An Interactive Game

With games like these, once you understand how and why the code works, the possibilities are truly limitless. Honestly, this game was so much fun to make together, we are definitely considering further expanding the game to include even more twists and turns. It has already been such a hit with our friends and family members, we can’t wait to see where “The Ski Trip” is going to go next!
