Inspiration

“The Shape of Silence” is inspired by the life and resilience of Helen Keller. Her extraordinary ability to navigate the world through touch — despite being both deaf and blind — has always moved me. I grew up reading her story over and over. For a challenge themed around Light, her journey felt like the most meaningful and poetic direction I could take.

What it does

The film explores the idea of communication beyond sound and sight. It translates silence into movement, texture, and light. Through surreal and poetic imagery, it suggests how inner worlds can illuminate themselves even when darkness seems absolute.

How we built it

I created the film using a combination of AI tools: – Runway & Midjourney for concept art and image generation – Kling, Higgsfield, Runway & Midjourney for video – Suno for the score – ElevenLabs for the voiceover The project is a hybrid workflow of iterative prompting, visual refinement, and narrative editing — but it’s rooted above all in an idea I’ve carried for years.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge was balancing technical experimentation with emotional clarity. Working with multiple AI tools meant navigating inconsistencies in style, pacing, and motion. Another challenge was finding the right tone: poetic, quiet, and respectful, without falling into melodrama or over-stylization.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I’m proud of achieving a visual and narrative atmosphere that feels deeply personal. I’m also proud that the homage to Helen Keller comes through with sincerity, without relying on clichés, and that the mix of tools ultimately merged into a cohesive cinematic piece.

What we learned

This project taught me how far AI video tools have come — and how much intention and editing still matter. I learned that blending different technologies can work beautifully if the emotional spine of the film remains clear. And that silence, when shaped carefully, can be one of the strongest narrative tools.
