Inspiration
In researching the project, we noticed that SFO does not have an "official native app." This blew us away. SFO lies in the heart of Silicon Valley and 7 years into the mobile revolution, does not have their own app. So, we thought it would be fun to imagine and create an official app. The app would be a resource for the population served by SFO.
How it works
We developed an iOS, Android, and HTML 5 app.
iOS: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/preview-your-app/id474947166?mt=8 Enter sfodemo in the email field and leave the password blank.
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.app_sfodemo.layout
HTML5: http://apps.apptology.com/mobile/?appcode=sfodemo
These are the front end features of the app:
1) Push Notification: The app can receive push notification from its backend. The notification can then be tied to the Alerts and Advisory
2) Alerts: The app can be updated with Alerts and Advisory by its content management system. Flight Status/Tracking: The flight status of all flights at SFO can be searched and displayed (including gate number). (addresses challenge 1)
3) Call Us: Provides on tap calling to important SFO numbers such as Main number, Lost & Found, TSA, etc (addresses challenge 1).
4) Directions: Provide turn by turn directions to various SFO faculties such as domestic terminal, long term parking, Rental Car Center (addresses challenge 4)
5) Maps: Provides detail maps of SFO (addresses challenges 2 & 4) Ground Transportation: Provides detailed info for Public Transportation, Taxi, Ride Sharing and car rentals (addresses challenge 4)

These are the main backend features:
1) Content Management System: Allows app administrator to update content in real time
2) Push notification: Allows app administrator to send out a push notification
3) Analytics: view different usage analytics regarding the app
4) iPhone Emulator: allows administrator to view the functioning app
Challenges I ran into
In the time allotted, we couldn't get the APIs to work properly and had to rely on our ReadyBuilt platfrom to do the heavy lifting.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The app is complete and already published on Google Play. I've showed it to a couple of people already and they plan on using it.
What I learned
There's only so much you can do in less than 48 hours.
What's next for The SFO App
It's live on Google Play and ready to be submitted it the Apple App Store. I would love to present this to the management of SFO and get their feedback and permission to publish it.
