Inspiration

Our inspiration initially came from "new year new me" and creating an AI bot that helps with productivity and task completion. However, experiencing some challenges and not hitting the target AI we wanted to use, we switched some things up.

In the end, we decided to keep the main idea of an assistant: a "second brain" where users store notes, articles, research papers, meeting notes, etc., and query them conversationally.

What it does

The Second Brain is simply a second you, or a second (AI) assistant! This assistant will take all of the user's stored notes, articles, research papers, meeting notes, etc., and be able to query them conversationally. This enables students, professors, assistants, anyone who has a job, or even anyone, to be able to show what they've learned and get a more in-depth understanding by being asked questions. This method parallels to active recall. By asking questions, users actively engaging their brain to interact with the material, allowing for more efficiency and effectiveness.

How we built it

We built the project with the help of past knowledge from MLH streams, specifically the Global Hack Weeks, this helped with our initial frame and got us started on the journey. From that we used VS Code, Mongo DB, Google Gemini, and ElevenLabs.

Challenges we ran into

-Time management: we were not yet adapt to the timing and our ideas changes, which forced a rush towards the end

-Last minute change of ideas

-Bugs

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Aside from having our project run and getting everything working at the last minute despite the challenges, we are proud that we accomplished the successful use of the ElevenLabs API, getting more involved and in-depth from the MongoDB vector search, and being able to use other tools opportunely.

Overall, we are very proud and grateful for what we have achieved this past weekend and for this opportunity, respectively.

What we learned

We learned that time is crucial: planning is an important aspect, but you shouldn't overcomplicate it and spend too much time on it. In addition, debugging also takes a while.

Overall, proper time management is very important, and seeing this was our team's shortest hackathon, we were able to get some valuable experience from it.

What's next for The Second Brain

After disbanding the to-do list and routine tracker, it would be so awesome to allow The Second Brain to relive those moments. In the continuation of The Second Brain, we plan to re-establish the routine maker and implement it into your second brain, so you can have all your notes, plans, and tasks in one place.
