Inspiration
We drew inspiration from online discussion platforms and role-playing games, incorporating themes from medieval culture and Dungeons & Dragons.
What it does
The Scrolla fosters a sense of community through shared curiosity and engagement. By posting questions and answers, users refine their skills and cultivate their interests.
How we built it
We began by brainstorming ideas across different tracks and selected the concept we felt was most achievable within 24 hours. From there, we outlined the key features and conducted research on the theme of our prototype. Next, we created wireflows on whiteboards and developed medium-fidelity models in Figma. Once the features were finalized, we focused on designing the interface elements and gradually built out the prototype. Finally, we tested the interactions to ensure they aligned with our expectations.
Challenges we ran into
Since this is our first hackathon and our main goal is to enjoy the experience, we initially brainstormed many features. However, given the limited time, we need to prioritize and focus on the ideas that are most feasible to implement. By narrowing down our scope, we can ensure that our project is both functional and polished, while still leaving room for creativity.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We explored a design style that we don’t often work with, which challenged us to think outside of our usual approaches. As part of this process, we conducted research into medieval history, color palettes, and game design UI to ensure our work was both authentic and visually engaging. This not only broadened our creative skills but also gave us valuable experience in applying historical and thematic research to a modern design context.
What we learned
We gained valuable insight into the passions that drive the design process. The challenges and time constraints we faced pushed us to grow as designers, strengthening our ability to make clear and informed decisions. Throughout the development process, we addressed and resolved issues thoughtfully, gaining a deeper understanding of both our limitations and strengths while designing a communication platform.
What's next for The Scrolla
We want to introduce a commission board feature that allows people to hire artists directly through the platform. This would create opportunities for artists to showcase their work, connect with potential clients, and receive compensation for their creativity. In the long term, we also envision expanding community-driven features, such as artist profiles, collaborative projects, and a rating system to build trust between clients and creators. By continuing to refine the platform, our goal is to support a sustainable creative ecosystem where both artists and users benefit.
