Inspiration
We are some serious movie buffs upon getting to know the theme is theaters the roots of modern days cinemas, we were exhilarated to produce something that was fun to interact with and just as fun as having the front seat at a live theater.
What it does
It lets you explore the great roman paradise along with its magnificent Colosseum and lets you interact with fellow Romans (other users) using twillio's web-chat API. You can even play ancient roman music and explore the city.
How we built it
We have built an interactive environment with a custom Roman model of the amphitheater The Colosseum
- used React.js for frontend
- used threejs for using the 3d model in the scene
- used nodejs for our backend
- Twillio Sendgrid for sending welcome mail ,when a user registers
- twilio chat app to talk with fellow Romans
Challenges we ran into
- It was the first time we tried to integrate react and threejs
- it was the first time we tried to use twillio, getting around the api to play our dreams was quite the issue.
- the model being over 100mb we could not push it github and hence become a problem
Accomplishments that we're proud of
-managed to successfully integrate our model into the react app
- learnt twilio api
What we learned
- Integrating react with Threejs
- Using Twillio's Api
- Some Blender stuff too (mostly how to move around 😉)
What's next for The Roman Walks
We will be working on the exploratory part where a user could explore the city right at its street level having some more interactive bot in the chat rooms
