Inspiration

I'm a lawyer who works advising blockchain tech startups. The law is confusing to most folks, it doesn't have to be as intimidating as people find it to be. Regulation doesn't have to bad, it can provide clarity for those afraid of what they don't understand. This thought, inspired me to want to change the misperception that the law restricts Bitcoin adoption and also dispel the public's negative sentiment toward cryptocurrency.

What it does

My project is a social media campaign to show how the law is a primary tool in advancing Bitcoin adoption through providing clear guidelines and protecting citizens right to self custody, trade, and mine Bitcoin. Degens are told to be wary of regulation, or that regulation is bad for decentralization and most Americans think Bitcoin is illegal or for scammers only, but both or wrong. The campaign seeks to inform crypto enthusiasts on the benefits of the law for Bitcoin and to educate the average person on how some laws have already made Bitcoin safe for use.

How we built it

I built this as a social media campaign to spread via Twitter, Telegram, and Discord communities, and at in-person crypto events.

Challenges we ran into

Creating a social media campaign and becoming viral isn't easy, and it's an extremely crowded space. The meme and hashtags have to be culturally impactful and capture the attention over whatever the 'meme of the week' may be.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Speaking on Bitcoin legislation victories at the DMV Bitcoiners Meetup, CATO Institute "DeFi, Illicit Finance, and the Future of Financial Freedom" event, and the Digital Chamber "Bitcoin Education Series" at the House of Representatives Longworth Office Building.

What we learned

Most crypto enthusiasts are so used to being anti-regulation, it's hard for them to understand how the law is positive, until you give them concrete examples in a simplified manner.

What's next for The Role of Legal Clarity for Bitcoin Adoption

We will rally support around organizations that are lobbying for positive crypto regulation in Washington, D.C. like the Digital Chamber and around the country like the Satoshi Action Fund who are sponsoring the Blockchain Basics Act across several states. We will continue to inform and update on how the law is being used to make Bitcoin use and mining available to Americans across the country in a legal manner.
