The Road Speaks

Inspiration

For 56 years, the Korea Expressway Corporation has been our silent companion. In an era where we find comfort in ChatGPT and convenience in autonomous driving, I wondered: "What if the road itself could talk?" I wanted to personify C-ITS (Cooperative-Intelligent Transport Systems) not as a complex grid of data, but as a warm community—a "Road Group Chat" where every vehicle and traffic light looks out for one another.

What I wanted to say

Advanced technology can often feel alienating or cold. However, the true purpose of C-ITS isn't just "faster travel"—it's about "safer lives." By showing the road cooperating to clear a path for a sick child, I wanted to convey that the ultimate goal of AI and smart infrastructure is human-centric consideration. Technology is merely a tool; the warmth comes from us.

How I built it

The process was an exercise in "translating technology into emotion."

Pre-writing: I drafted a script based on real-world C-ITS functions (emergency vehicle priority, signal synchronization) and framed them as chat messages.
Visuals: I used AI image and video generators to contrast the "cold" blue tones of high-tech data with "warm" golden hues representing human connection.
Editing: The interface of a group chat was overlaid on cinematic road footage to make the invisible data streams visible and relatable.

Challenges & limitations

The biggest challenge was visual consistency—maintaining a cinematic look while integrating digital chat elements. Balancing the technical accuracy of C-ITS with the poetic atmosphere of a short film required multiple iterations. I had to choose emotional resonance over a literal technical manual, focusing on the "feeling" of being connected rather than just the mechanics of the sensors.
