Inspiration

I was inspired to create this website after learning about the widespread environmental impact of plastic water bottles. The reality that billions of bottles end up in landfills, contributing to pollution and climate change, pushed me to find a way to raise awareness and spark change.

What it does

This website aims to highlight the hidden costs of plastic water bottles, focusing on the environmental damage caused by production, disposal, and microplastics. It also examines how limited access to clean tap water in underserved communities fuels reliance on bottled water, and offers actionable solutions to reduce waste and promote sustainability.

How we built it

I designed and developed the website using Weebly and Canva, focusing on creating an engaging user experience with interactive elements, informative content, and visually impactful graphics. I also used Tableau to create visualizations for key data points, making the information more accessible and engaging for visitors. Challenges we ran

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges I faced was gathering accurate data about the environmental impact of plastic water bottles and the accessibility of tap water in various communities. Presenting this information clearly and concisely without it being overwhelming was also a challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I’m proud of how I was able to create a platform that educates people about the full life cycle of plastic water bottles. I’m especially proud of the solutions section, where there are tangible ways for youth and others to reduce their plastic consumption and advocate for better infrastructure.

What we learned

Throughout this project, I learned about the intricate link between plastic waste, climate change, and water access. I also learned a lot about web development, from design principles to user experience, which made the site much more impactful.

What's next for The Ripple Effect

I plan to continue adding more data and interactive content to make the website even more engaging. Additionally, I want to collaborate with environmental organizations to further amplify the message and drive real-world change.
