Inspiration

I have always loved raccoons and I have always loved science fiction, and the idea of combining the two has been floating in my mind for over a year. The Chroma Awards finally gave me a reason to bring that idea to life. This project let me take two things I enjoy and build something fun, lighthearted, and a little bit weird in the best way.

What it does

This project mixes storytelling with modern AI tools to create a short, humorous sci-fi origin story about a family of raccoons building a spaceship to search for food. It blends narration, character animation, and world-building into a cohesive short film that introduces the “Raccoonauts” universe.

How we built it

I built the project by combining multiple AI video, image, and audio tools to create each scene, then editing everything together in Premiere Elements to shape the final story. The workflow blended narration, animation, and post-production polishing to form a cohesive pilot episode.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was prompt adherence - many scenes took multiple attempts across different AI models before the tools finally produced the action or behavior I needed. I also had to trim parts of the story in order to meet the submission deadline.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I’m proud that I was able to bring an entirely original animated sci-fi comedy to life using a mix of AI tools, each contributing something different to the final result. Coordinating dozens of scenes, maintaining a consistent visual style, and turning a year-old idea into a finished episode in time for the deadline felt like a real creative milestone.

What we learned

I learned how valuable it is to combine different AI tools for their strengths. LTX Studio gave me access to its video model, which produced several key scenes, and this was also my first time using Flux for image generation with great results.

What's next for The Raccoonauts

I plan to continue the Raccoonauts as an ongoing series, following the Trashington family on new space adventures. Future episodes will explore strange planets, cosmic mishaps, and creative food-hunting missions across the galaxy. I’m excited to keep developing the characters and expand their universe with even more AI-generated storytelling.
