Inspiration

People tend to take the path of least resistance. Short-form content is also a plague on our generation. Using these ideas, we decided to make something that made scrolling that much more annoying, while also turning otherwise wasted time into something more productive, heralded by none other than the greatest icon of our generation, the Quizzler😱😱😱😱😱

What it does

We actively hinder the user experience on apps such as Instagram & YouTube (shorts) by inserting mini quizzes in between reels that prevent further scrolling until completion as well as time penalties for poor performers, incentivizing learning. The quizzes are also generated based on user-submitted notes, tailoring the experience for each person. Our program aims to both disincentivize prolonged doom-scrolling while covering topics you needed to learn anyways.

How we built it

Main app is a Chrome extension with Express backend using Cohere to generate problems, with MongoDB for data storage.

Challenges we ran into

  • Getting reel interception working properly
  • Trying to setup user auth
  • Getting Cohere to output in a specified format
  • Time management

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • browser to media to user interfacing /interception
  • dual-platform support
  • stable cohere implementation / interfacing

What we learned

  • all things related to Chrome extension development
  • Cohere implementation

What's next for The Quizzler

  • increased compatibility for related medias and systems (mobile adaptation, etc)
  • additional user experience reducers (time based rate caps, etc)
  • user control over parameters
  • increased diversity of questions
  • live info feed into the AI system
  • expanded AI capabilities (longer texts compatibility)
