Inspiration

I wanted to make a political thriller where you're not the hero — you're the fixer. No guns, no action. Just quiet, cold choices.

What it does

You play as "The Advisor," a shadowy figure who protects powerful people. A detective is getting too close to the truth. You have to stop him — not by killing him, but by breaking his case, isolating him, and making him doubt everything.

How we built it

Just HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript. No frameworks. I wanted it to feel like a classified document — dark, quiet, serious.

Challenges we ran into

Sound was a nightmare. Browsers block audio unless the user clicks something, and even then it's inconsistent. I eventually dropped it to keep the game smooth. Also, balancing the "proximity to truth" stat so every ending feels earned took a lot of tweaking.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The Confession ending — where you actually tell Mehra everything. And the True Win ending — where you win completely and feel nothing. Both hit hard.

What we learned

You don't need fancy engines to tell a good story. Choices + atmosphere + a little CSS go a long way. Also, sound on the web is way harder than it should be.

What's next for The Quiet Counsel

Maybe a second chapter with a new target. Maybe a prequel showing how The Advisor became who he is. But honestly, it works as a short, sharp thing.
