Inspiration for The Queen Bee

The Queen Bee is a character I created for usage in an original art demo/game in alpha, "Jora and The Four Seasons". The Queen Bee is the ruler of the kingdom of Chrysanthia, and is the Royal Overseer Orb-Scrying Wizard Jora's boss. To his utter dismay, she says so... many... bee puns... But the people love her! She was truly meant to bee Queen.

Disclaimer: I would be a lying fool if I didn't admit I was semi inspired by the REAL Queen B herself, Miss Sasha Fierce, Beyonce.

The Modeling Process

I created this model in ZBrush using a modular blockout method that revolves around using many subtools for easy editing on the fly. Then, I started the clothing and armor sculpts. I opted to use height paint in Substance for the intricate armor details instead of sculpting them in because that would've been unbeelievably inefficient.

Challenges

You would not bee-lieve the original poly count on this bad boy... Whoever made ZBrush's decimation master, I hope you're having a great day right now.

Gold Stars

I really like her armor sculpt, and I think her color scheme came together really nicely. Working within the bee theme was super fun, too.

Learning experiences

Height maps are a girl's best friend. Also, if I could go back, I'd add some dirt generators to make the surfaces look more organic.

What's next for The Queen Bee?

I really want to model her staff, "Plan A", and rapier-stinger, "Plan Bee". I have a brilliant vision, and it involves honey comb.
