Inspiration

During this lock down, I trusted board games and computers to keep me from boredom. This also inspired me to create The Quarantine GameHub to give others the same pleasure I derived from computers and board games and help them stay cheerful and excited throughout this time.

What it does

The Quarantine GameHub provides users with 4 simple yet exciting games that can keep one occupied for hours together. It also comes with a "Time Played" system to give users a mental idea on how long they have been playing so nothing goes out-of-control. It also comes with a user-friendly GUI so users can thoroughly enjoy themselves.

How I built it

I used Python and its vast ocean of modules, including Tkinter and the Datetime module. I built each game as a separate program and used subprocess module to call them from the main program.

Challenges I ran into

There were a lot of challenges I ran into. Multiple loops in the Battleship game caused multiple confusions and wrong executions and it took me almost one hour to debug. Getting the GUI to display correctly was not any walk in the park either. Getting the buttons in the right places was quite a job but I managed to get it right soon after I used the grid function

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

When I click Submit, I would have successfully participated in my first Hackathon, which I feel is a big achievement. I am also proud of the fact that I have created, from scratch, a program that could possibly bring a smile to people's faces.

What I learned

I actually learned a lot while writing my code. I learned about _ Tkinter _ and its various features to create a great-looking GUI. I gained experience regarding running a program from another and getting functions from one program into another.

What's next for The Quarantine GameHub

A lot of new games are on the way for The Quarantine GameHub. A new and updated GUI might also come up soon. I hope to also add a login function to keep your games to yourself. In the near future, I hope to develop The Quarantine GameHub into a truly memorable application.
