Inspiration
- Once upon a time, a long-time math student with too much time on their hands became dissatisfied with constantly having to solve quadratic equations in the process of solving other problems... and the rest was history.
What it does
- It solves quadratic equations input by the user and outputs either the roots or the discriminant of each equation.
- It can show the steps in solving each equation if the user so chooses.
- And if you explore further, you'll find that it can break all the rules...
How we built it
- The three of us, working remotely, discussed everything that needed to be done to make the project before the Hackathon started and chose our roles.
- When the competition began, we worked closely together to build the website from the ground up until we had the finished product.
Challenges we ran into
- Going into this, we knew next to nothing about web development, with only one of us having very limited knowledge of html and css from school from over 2 years ago. It's safe to say that everything about this was a real crash course.
- Our knowledge about full-stack development in general was also largely limited to what we had learned in high school (not much); we only recently graduated. A lot of research, trial and error and creative liberties had to be involved.
- Making the video was very time-consuming and we almost cut it too close (but it was worth it in the end).
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- We are very happy to have completed our first ever hackathon (for two of us), and second ever hackathon (but first online one) respectively.
- Tambi is somewhat proud to have obtained the real-life advancement: "Pull an all-nighter just for coding."
- We are proud that it actually works.
What we learned
- We learned how to effectively execute a group project: open, straightforward and very descriptive communication, dedication and problem resolution.
- We also essentially learned 3 new languages.
What's next for The Quadratic Calculator
- It would be really cool to publish this online as a fully-fledged website.
Targeted prize tracks
- best overall
- Memenome Don Pollo
- I'm just a girl (2 out of 3 us are girls)
- i laughed. (new hackers prize)
- codedex i wanna learn stuff
