Inspiration
The Pursuit draws inspiration from the visceral world of Mad Max: Fury Road — a brutal, arid wasteland where survival depends on speed and instinct. We wanted to capture that raw, cinematic energy and translate it into a one-minute short film with a modern twist: entirely generated with AI.
What it does
The film immerses viewers in a relentless chase, where dust, engines, and poetry collide. The Pursuit demonstrates how AI can create ultra-realistic, immersive, and coherent storytelling — from storyboard to final animation — opening the door to a new way of making independent films.
How we built it
We built the film in several stages:
Story development and cinematic shot breakdown.
Hyper-realistic visuals generated with MidJourney, drawing on references like George Miller, Spielberg, Moebius, and Peaky Blinders.
Animation and camera movement with Hailuo 2 and Kling AI.
Final editing in After Effects, with light and sound design to heighten the dramatic tension.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was visual consistency: keeping characters, vehicles, and the overall mood stable across shots, despite the current limits of generative AI. We also had to refine grain, lighting, and textures to avoid an illustrative look and achieve true cinematic realism.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of creating a complete short film, in just a few weeks, with the look and feel of a Hollywood blockbuster — without filming a single frame. This project proves the potential of a new cinematic language born from AI.
What we learned
We learned how to harness different AI tools and combine them into a creative pipeline: from prompt engineering to animation, grading, and upscaling. Most importantly, we realized that AI doesn’t replace creative vision — it amplifies it.
What's next for “The Pursuit“
The next step is to push AI further — especially for longer, fluid sequences — and explore a hybrid form of storytelling between traditional cinema and AI-generated imagery.
