Inspiration

The short was inspired by the current chaotic stage of AI filmmaking. I noticed a common obsession among AI artists—myself included—with spectacular tech wizardry and the ability to generate complex imagery, often neglecting storytelling. The film is a meta-satire of directors who abandon narrative logic for the sake of chaotic, "confusing, existential dread-inducing" visual output, simply because the technology allows it.

What it does

"The Prompter" is a mockumentary that critiques the impulse in generative video to prioritize viral, nonsensical spectacle over coherent story arcs. It uses absurdist comedy to highlight the tension between human creative expectation and the random, powerful capabilities of AI. It satirizes the industry's focus on technological novelty (e.g., celery singing opera) rather than meaningful content.

How we built it

This project was a hybrid production focused on maximum visual absurdity and sound design.

Video Generation: All of the fantastical scenes and the interview backdrops were generated using T2V prompts in Google's Veo 3 to achieve high-quality, yet bizarre, visual consistency with the script's demands and dialogues.

Editing & Sound: The final assembly, sound design, and rapid, jarring pacing (to create the "ADHD" effect) were handled by Elevenlabs and CapCut.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge was the consistency of absurdity. It was tricky to prompt the AI to create footage that was both technically impressive and perfectly nonsensical in the way the script demanded (e.g., getting the right tone for a dragon's "existential dread"). We constantly worked to balance the satire with high production value.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of creating an effective, timely meta-satire that critiques the current state of AI filmmaking from within the space. We successfully used advanced AI tools (Veo 3, ElevenLabs) to create a comedic commentary on the absurdity of AI-driven creativity, delivering a high-energy, original concept.

What we learned

I learned that the strongest creative work in the AI space often comes from applying a critical, human lens to the technology's inherent randomness. The medium's tendency toward spectacular, random output, when deliberately framed, is its most powerful comedic tool.

What's next for The Prompter

I envision expanding "The Prompter" into an episodic series, following Tony as he applies his destructive, logic-free directorial style to other generative AI mediums, like music videos, advertising, or video games, continuing to satirize the prioritization of raw technological output over structure.
