Here's Our Story
Inspiration
Incorporating the latest technologies and developments like Machine-learning, Artificial intelligence, and IOT to establish a one-stop platform to aid women in their breast cancer treatment was our goal as a team. Additionally, the personal experiences of two of our team members who saw their family members' struggle to fight breast cancer treatment was a strong motivating factor for the entire team.
What it does
The Pink Hope is a secure, holistic website that helps women fight breast cancer mentally, medically, & financially through valid information, support groups & tools, & also helps advance research. The website incorporates Machine-learning, Natural Language Processing, and advanced analytics to establish a one-stop platform to aid women in their breast cancer treatment journey
How we built it
We built this application as a team. Each one of us played a different role from a Designer, Developer, Marketing Strategist and Business Development, and Business Analyst. On the technical side, we have used the Django Web Framework and related technologies which are based out of Python to build this website. In Django, we have created a Machine Learning model that is trained to predict the assessment of Breast cancer using users’ data, the algorithm used to build this model is a Random forest classifier. We have styled the HTML pages using CSS, Bootstrap, and related technologies.
Challenges we ran into
For the Machine learning model, collecting trained data was challenging in this short duration. Our team did not have expertise in front-end technology, and we had to learn this to put together the website. Besides that, our team was based in 2 different time locations that did make it difficult since we had only 3 days after 2 teams were put together to create our one team. But we are glad we made it work so beautifully!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our team was put together 3 days before the submission - so right from fusing our ideas to put together a common vision and working on our responsibilities to bring together the final website is an accomplishment that we are proud of!
What we learned
Collecting trained data for the ML model, learning front end development, learning a lot more about breast cancer, and the different stages of breast cancer treatment.
What's next for The Pink Hope
Incorporating NLP to enhance our support group and Connect features, Incorporate Deep Learning to improve the accuracy of the predictions of our machine-learning model, multi-platform support to make it omnichannel, multi-linguistic interface.
