The website does NOT work with the actual program right now, it is just for demonstrating purposes. The actual program only works on a local computer after downloading multiple files and going through multiple steps.

Inspiration:

In 2012, the Pew Research Center found that over 3 in every 4 Americans believed the media is biased. We want to reduce this bias and give Americans access to better news.

What it does:

First, users fill out a survey to determine their age and political party. Using that information as well as their IP address to determine their location, it’ll compiles articles written from the perspective of the opposite political party in their age group.

How we built it:

Using Node JS, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. In the beginning, we decided to one of our team members Yuval created the back end design and the rest of us worked on the front end.

Challenges we ran into:

At first, we had some trouble deploying the website to the .tech domain. We also had some trouble with code in general due to inexperience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of:

We're proud that we were able to produce a finished product by the end of the 24 hours, and that we were able to bring together the front end and back end design.

What we learned:

All of us gained coding experience during this hackathon, and how to formally design a product. We also learned how to structure our work and how to pitch our idea.

What's next for The Perfect Scoop:

We ran into some issues with combining the front end with the back end. In the future, we want to combine the two to make the full user experience. We would like expand “The Perfect Scoop” to go beyond politics and news. Our website is only applicable to the United States at the moment. In the future, we would like to expand it to cover news in other countries. We would also like to make our service easier to use. We would also like to integrate this into our .tech domain, since right now it only runs on our computer since it would cost money to run it.
