A website to track your caffeine intake and get informed on all things coffee related!

Inspiration

With caffeine being a staple in almost every student’s lifestyle, many are unaware when it comes to the amount of caffeine in their drinks. Although a small dose of caffeine increases one’s ability to concentrate, higher doses may be detrimental to physical and mental health. This inspired us to create The Perfect Blend, a platform that allows users to manage their daily caffeine intake, with the aim of preventing students from spiralling down a coffee addiction.

What it does

The Perfect Blend tracks caffeine intake and calculates how long it takes to leave the body, ensuring that users do not consume more than the daily recommended amount of caffeine. Users can add drinks from the given options and it will update on the tracker. Moreover, The Perfect Blend educates users on how the quantity of caffeine affects their bodies with verified data and informative tier lists.

How we built it

We used Figma to lay out the design of our website, then implemented it into Velo by Wix. The back-end of the website is coded using JavaScript. Our domain name was registered with domain.com.

Challenges we ran into

This was our team’s first hackathon, so we decided to use Velo by Wix as a way to speed up the website building process; however, Wix only allows one person to edit at a time. This significantly decreased the efficiency of developing a website. In addition, Wix has building blocks and set templates making it more difficult for customization. Our team had no previous experience with JavaScript, which made the process more challenging.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This hackathon allowed us to ameliorate our web design abilities and further improve our coding skills. As first time hackers, we are extremely proud of our final product. We developed a functioning website from scratch in 36 hours!

What we learned

We learned how to lay out and use colours and shapes on Figma. This helped us a lot while designing our website. We discovered several convenient functionalities that Velo by Wix provides, which strengthened the final product. We learned how to customize the back-end development with a new coding language, JavaScript.

What's next for The Perfect Blend

Our team plans to add many more coffee types and caffeinated drinks, ranging from teas to energy drinks. We would also like to implement more features, such as saving the tracker progress to compare days and producing weekly charts.
