Inspiration
- Malls, parties, events—everyone has places to go, but parking has always been a struggle that often drives people away from taking their own car and having to develop plans with public transport, rideshare, and more. We wanted to create a platform—The Parking G.O.A.T—that allows people to book a parking spot in commercial spaces in advance for a day and time they need at the location of their choosing to eliminate this issue.
What it does
- After logging in, you input your desired location, day, time in and time out and you get assigned a parking spot. Our app features GPS tracking that will allow you to start a ride and get to your designated spot and automatically marks as available once you leave at your time out. You can book up to 6 weeks in advance and cancel your reservation at anytime.
How we built it
- We built our prototype using Figma.
Challenges we ran into
- While the concept of reserving parking spots sounds like a straightforward solution, it was challenging to think through the ideation process and flesh out any loopholes and challenges. We had to identify ways that we can partner with commercial spaces with sensors/cameras, those without, how to incentivize commercial spaces to join us, and more. Additionally, as a team of beginners with minimal to no Figma experience, we had to balance learning and creating at the same time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Despite our limited experience, we were able to create a mostly functional prototype and covered most of the details regarding the operations of our app relating to connections we have with external partners (property managers, store managers, tenants, companies owning lots/structures, etc.)
What we learned
- We learned lots of new stills to use in Figma and also how to differentiate between a pitch and case study, as well as how to effectively frame and present a case study. We also learned a lot about the important steps of the ideation process and design thinking process.
What's next for The Parking G.O.A.T (TPG)
- TPG is looking to expand more research into other areas beyond our initial research of California to identify specific needs users may have in other regions.
