The Oubliette comes from my long-standing fascination with avant-garde cinema and the haunting visual language of films from the 1960s and 1970s. I wanted to capture the texture and mood of that era, the minimalist blocking, the dream-logic atmospheres. The film draws from experimental European cinema, early surrealism, and desolate post-apocalyptic imagery.
The short follows two castaways who awaken in a barren expanse where time seems to have collapsed into sand and dust. There is no linear narrative; instead, the film works as a symbolic moodpiece. The desert is both a physical environment and a psychological oubliette.
