Inspiration

As a community operator in the US, I grew frustrated with juggling 5+ tools to manage courses, member engagement, and monetization. I wanted a unified workspace that eliminated disjointed systems—one that put creators’ needs at the center, combining the best of course delivery, accountability challenges, and revenue tracking into a single, intuitive platform.

What it does

CommunityOS empowers course creators, coaches, and community owners to manage every aspect of their paid communities in one place: deliver structured courses, run accountability challenges, moderate discussions, manage membership tiers, and track revenue—all with a focus on seamless member engagement and scalable monetization.

How we built it

We started with core user stories from fellow US/EU-based creators, mapping critical workflows (course delivery, challenge tracking, payment management). We built the frontend with React/Tailwind for a clean, bold UI, paired a Node.js/Express backend with MongoDB for flexible data storage, and integrated AI and payment APIs to automate key tasks like activity summaries and subscription processing.

Challenges we ran into

Balancing granular permission controls for membership tiers while keeping the UI intuitive was tough—we iterated 8+ times to simplify tier-based access without sacrificing functionality. We also struggled to align real-time engagement metrics with financial tracking, requiring custom data visualization logic to unify these datasets.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created a platform that eliminates tool-switching for creators, with a seamless flow from course creation to revenue tracking. The AI-powered community moderation and activity summaries have cut manual admin time for beta users by 40%, and the tiered membership system scales effortlessly for communities of 100s of members.

What we learned

We learned that creators prioritize simplicity over "feature bloat"—every tool needs to solve a specific pain point. We also gained insight into regional monetization preferences (e.g., EU focus on recurring subscriptions vs. US mix of subscriptions + one-time course sales) and built flexibility for these differences into the platform.

What's next for this project

We’ll expand regional payment support for EU/US markets, add advanced AI-driven personalization for member journeys, and build mobile-responsive workflows to let creators manage communities on-the-go. We also plan to integrate with popular EU/US course creation tools to reduce onboarding friction.
