Inspiration
We were inspired by how teachers and parents are focusing on whether news platforms are trustworthy rather than focusing on whether kids have fun reading the news.
What it does
We created an information platform that takes news from trustworthy sources and makes them fun and exciting. Our website has four different categories (business, sports, entertainment, and technology). There is also a surprise game so that kids will stay more engaged on the website.
How we built it
We built it by using HTML, CSS, JS, and Python. We also made animations using Procreate so kids and teens find the app more enjoyable.
Challenges we ran into
We were challenged when we had to add elements to our website using flask. Due to our limited experience with it, normal additions such as creating a multiple page website or adding animations because very difficult. However, we were able to push through our difficulties and find solutions to our problems in order to succeed.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We accomplished making a multiple-page website that we are proud of and creating beautiful graphics that are showcased on the website. We are also proud of all of the animations we have made for The Newsies.
What we learned
We learned how to use Python with HTML, CSS, and JS. We also learned how to use Procreate and how to animate. We also learned to further our knowledge by combining coding with animations.
What's next for The Newsies
After this hackathon, we are going to focus on things such as making animations better and refining the UI a bit. We want to make this website more appealing to kids and teens, so we will add more animations (and maybe refine the ones we already have) in order to make the website more interesting.
