Inspiration
As a lawyer, public policy professional, and business consultant, I've spent over 20 years helping people resolve conflicts. I realized that the biggest obstacle isn't finding solutions—it's getting people to communicate without escalating. That inspired me to ask: what if AI could neutralize conflict before trying to solve it?
What it does
The Neutralization Method is an AI-powered conflict resolution system that transforms emotionally charged narratives into neutral, factual conversations. Each participant privately shares their perspective, AI removes blame while preserving meaning, then both sides receive neutral summaries, identify shared interests, and collaborate on a practical working agreement.
How we built it
I designed the mediation workflow and prompt architecture using OpenAI models. The MVP is built with Airtable automations, structured AI prompts, and a rule-based workflow that guides users from private intake through neutralization, agreement generation, and follow-up. The system keeps raw narratives private and only shares neutralized summaries.
Challenges we ran into
The hardest challenge wasn't technical—it was teaching AI to remain truly neutral. The prompts had to preserve each person's meaning without validating accusations or assigning blame. Designing guardrails that consistently de-escalate conflict while maintaining trust required dozens of iterations.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a working end-to-end prototype that demonstrates a completely new use of AI: not answering questions, but transforming adversarial communication into constructive dialogue. The project shows that AI can facilitate understanding without replacing human judgment.
What we learned
Building this project taught us that workflow design is just as important as prompt engineering. Trust, transparency, privacy, and neutrality must be designed into every interaction if AI is going to help people resolve real-world conflicts.
What's next for The Neutralization Method
Next, we want to replace the Airtable prototype with a production web application using the OpenAI API, add multilingual support, voice interactions, and richer agreement workflows, and pilot the platform with professional mediators before expanding into enterprise conflict resolution.
