The negotiator is here to help you get the pay you deserve! Through the use of national statistics and AI, we are here to bridge the pay gap between minorities and genders alike.

Inspiration

One of my siblings was the inspiration behind this project. I remember my sibling trying to craft the words to an employer to negotiate her offer letter - and then using chatgpt to do so!

I was in a similar position when I received an offer for a position that I didn't think was enough. Not knowing how to advocate for myself, I turned to my brother who helped guide me through his methodology when trying to negotiate better pay (statistics). He showed me where I could find statistics from the U.S. Bureau Labor Statistics(https://www.bls.gov/) about my position and the national average pay for the position I was offered.

Combing my family's experiences with using AI to help us advocate for better pay, being back up by statistics, The Negotiator was born.

This website that helps you know the national salary pay for your role will help you craft a better prompt when drafting that negotiation email.

What it does

It works using data from the National Occupational Employment and Wage Estimates from the U.S. Bureau Of Labor Statistics to help inform our target market about their role and how much they should be paid. We also use AI to analyze their work experience and take this data into account to help them better understand how their skills calculate into their pay. Our Negoitate4Me feature also uses ChatGPT to help our members craft emails that highlight their work experience and national statistics while going through the negotiation phase of the interview process to better advocate for equity in the workforce.

Challenges we ran into

The documentation for using ChatGPT in web dev is terrible. I know technically, it should be implemented server side with node, but that was another challenge I didn't have time to take on.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

If I didn't have siblings who knew how the world worked and were very resourceful when advocating for themselves in the workforce, I wouldn't know what to do when that offer letter came. Hopefully something like this, someone like me (without the best siblings in the world), would be able to navigate that negotiation phase because they are armed with data and AI.

What we learned

SO MUCH. I'm taking web dev right now, so it's easy to pick up on resources from the internet and how they affect styling/layout, but I feel like HackSA just improved my knowledge beyond what I've learned in the classroom because of this opportunity.

I learned how to implemenet ChatGPT into a web application, how to turn logo images into hyper links, how to embed a youtube video into my website, etc.

What's next for The Negotiator

Make it look prettier and not take so long to draft my negotiation email.
