Inspiration

I was highly inspired by the games Zork and as mentioned, Godville. They take a game with nothing to see but words and let you, the character, visualize what's happening yourself and your imagination run wild answering different questions to shift your in-game experience.

What it does

It's a game based of of the players inputs, so when the "narrator" asks a question and the player responds there's likely an if-else or switch statement that's going to shift the narrator's follow up to that response.

How I built it

I built it in the CodeHS sandbox at first, only because I forgot Repl.it was a thing. Also, for the title I copied one of those rectangular boxes off of Reddit and designed it myself.

Challenges I ran into

It took me quite a long time to think of what I wanted to make as well as actually make it. I took a while trying to redesign the game's logo, but stopped that because I realized it was taking too long (as I was plotting the dimensions, block by block). I also, shouldn't have looked at other hackathon projects the day oh working. There were so many inspiring projects that they left me feeling upset about my own project.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm proud of entering in this competition. I'm not really a competitive coder, because when I code I'm doing it for me because I like seeing the change behind a game or web-page. But, the MLH experience was great, not only do they give you access to software and services that can help you down the road or now but being able to show what I know and say I was here to learn rather than to say I was here for the prize is a good feeling.

What I learned

I learned that in these hackathons and even in everyday life when it comes to coding, you have to organize your time wisely. If I had experienced this before I'd make many changes and hopefully I'll be able to make them the next time I attend a hackathon. Also, don't compare your project to others, just be inspired by others and make what YOU choose because this project is supposed to reflect you.

What's next for The Narrator's Tale

Redesigning the logo and finishing the game's creation entirely for peace of mind.
