Inspiration

I have always been a fan of Old Retro Top Down RPG games. When I was brainstorming ideas for this hackathon I knew I had to create an adventure game similar to Pokemon and the Legend of Zelda (as those are my favourite adventure games!)

What it does

The mystical city of Quilphia is a 2D top-down retro RPG game where you will voyage through the mystical land of Quilphia and you will meet new people and complete quests. When you first load in you will be greeted by a local villager. He states that the town has been evaded and you must be the one to defeat all of the enemies. To defeat the enemy walk up to one of them and fight them in a turn-based combat system that is very similar to Pokémon. Make sure you choose your moves wisely. As you go on you will level up and you will learn more moves just like in the Pokémon games.

Controls

To move the character use WASD or Arrow Keys

To select a option in the dialogue use the arrow keys to hover over an option and use the space bar to select the option

Note: The audio is a bit delayed in Simmer.io for some reason it works perfectly fine when I run it in unity and It takes time to transition from the menu screen to the game scene in simmer.io and you will experience a little bit of game lag on simmer.io.

To attack an alien press the attack button on the screen and use the heal button

How we built it

I used Unity and for languages of code I used C#.

Challenges we ran into

C# and Unity are completely new to me so creating this game within 3 days was definitely a struggle. I spent endless nights debugging this game. Furthermore it was a hard to get the animations for the player in, trigger dialogue, trigger quests and also create a whole turn based combat system. However I am very happy with the final product.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As stated above this is my first time creating something with Unity and C#. Furthermore I only learned my first language of code a few months ago which was Javascript, so I'm overall very new to programming.

What we learned

I learned how to use Unity and I gained a very good knowledge of C#.

What's next for The Mystical City Of Quilphia

I plan to add more levels and features to the game!
