Inspiration
We really wanted to know what was in the mystery box and it slowly warped from there.
What it does
Procedurally generates a randomised world and enemies, every time you go through a door you are in a new generated room full of generated enemies. Of you do well and collect items and health, you steadily get stronger, otherwise you quickly lose. The goal is to get through as many rooms as possible.
How we built it
We spent a few hours trying to get a different API to work, then swapped to Unity, downloading and learning Visual Studios and the Unity2D as we went. We also used github and repl.it for transferring code and keeping a master version.
Challenges we ran into
Mainly we were having trouble with finding an API that worked well for us, although the major challenge was really the clock as we were trying to finish it off in time for the deadline.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Actually getting a functional game out of it.
What we learned
We learned a lot about working with the Unity API, and it was a good opportunity to work on rusty to nonexistent C# skills.
What's next for The Mystery Box
We'll probably slowly polish it up, putting in almost-but-not-quite implemented features such as levels that steadily get harder, themed sprites for levels, and various new enemy types/behaviors.
